TRAVEL

We are so excited for you to experience the Tuscan countryside with us, but we know its not easy to navigate.
If you can get to Florence, we will do the rest.

STEP 1: getting to Florence

If your first stop in Italy is our wedding, we recommend flying into Florence (FLR). Please note, there are no direct flights into Florence from the states. You will typically find connections through Amsterdam, Paris, or Munich.

If you will be in Italy prior to our wedding or choose to fly into Rome, the Italian train system (Trenitalia) is an inexpensive and great way to get from city center to city center.

STEP 2: getting to the countryside

Transportation will be provided from Florence International Airport (FLR) and Florence Santa Maria Novella Train Station (SMN) on Friday, May 30th to recommended hotels.

Transportation will be provided from recommended hotels to Florence International Airport (FLR) and Florence Santa Maria Novella Train Station (SMN) on Monday, June 2nd.

TUSCANY RECOMMENDATIONS

If you are planning to take some time to explore Tuscany before or after our wedding celebration, these are some of our favorite spots and tips for getting around.

THINGS TO DO

Montepulciano

A picturesque medieval Renaissance hill top town known for its vino nobile wine. Wander the streets and enjoy some shopping and food or spend the day visiting cantinas, tasting wine from local wineries! Our favorite is Cantina De’ Ricci.

San Gimignano

A captivating medieval town renowned for its iconic skyline of ancient towers - the town itself is an UNESCO World Heritage site. It is also home to Tuscany's only white DOCG wine: Vernaccia di San Gimignano.

Pienza

Originally a medieval village, it was transformed into a model Renaissance town in the 15th century under the patronage of Pope Pius II, who sought to create an ideal city. Wander the streets taking in the stunning architecture or stop in one of the local shops for a cheese tasting. This place is home to the famous Pecorino di Pienza!

Renting a Car

While cars can be an easy way to get around Tuscany, we do not recommend using a rental during the wedding events. The roads are often winding, unpaved, and unmarked, which can make driving in the dark very challenging. Hotels often do not offer parking.

If you will be traveling in Tuscany before or after our wedding, car rentals are a good option to reach many of the smaller hilltop towns. Cars can be rented in Florence. Please remember most rental cars are manual transmission, so be sure to double check your rental reservation. We do not recommend renting an electric vehicle, it can be challenging to find charging stations in Tuscany.

Public Transportation

If you will be traveling to larger cities, trains are the most efficient and cheapest mode of transport. We like to use Rome2Rio to check out travel options.

Hiring a Car Service

Sometimes the easiest option is to hire a car service to drive you from town to town or make day trips out to vineyards. Use this list on trip advisor to find a provider.
